DYWIDAG International together with its sister company Züblin Ural will carry out the construction works for the new steel plant in the south-west Siberian city of Tyumen. The EUR 180 million contract was awarded to the companies’ parent company STRABAG in September 2007.

As the oldest city in Siberia, Tyumen, situated 2,100 km east of the Russian capital Moscow, has some 535,000 inhabitants. Siberian temperature fluctuations from – 50°C during the winter to + 38°C in summer will constitute a challenge for the whole construction process.

The contract includes the erection of a new mini-mill as well as the supporting facilities for the employer Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company Serov Tyumen (UMMC). The central component of this new plant is the hot rolling mill which will transform 12 meter long square billets to round bars with diameters ranging from 10 to 42 mm on the cooling bed.

The construction period for the new 70,000 m² steel production facility is scheduled to take 32 months. The mechanical equipment will be supplied by Italian specialist Danieli. After completion the plant will produce up to 550,000 t/per year of high quality steel mainly for the construction and engineering industry. The current plans already allow for a future expansion by adding production facilities for wire rods and bars in coils.

DYWIDAG has more than 40 years of experience worldwide in the construction of all kinds of steel plants and employs the most modern construction methods and equipment.
