Beginning in the design stage, DYWIDAG is fully committed to achieve and maintain the highest standards of health and safety for its employees, to create a safe working environment at all times and to achieve and maintain the highest standards of environmental protection in all projects, operations and services it undertakes.

DYWIDAG reminds all employees that they have a responsibility not only for their own safety and that of their colleagues, but also for Environmental Protection by undertaking their work in a safe and responsible manner.

Our aim is

  • to identify and minimise the risk of injury and health hazards of all persons affected by the company’s activities and the risk of environmental hazards for all activities of the company;
  • to reduce by all practicable means the number of accidents, dangerous incidents, damage to property, hazards to health, safety and environment, at the place of work;
  • to ensure that the legal obligations of the company and its employees are fully observed.

In order to achieve these objectives, DYWIDAG will, after award of the contract:

  • provide safety and environmental advice and expertise to assist managers and all employees to undertake their work in a safe and responsible manner,
  • design, develop and maintain special Safety and Environmental Procedures as key part of any Project Quality Plan in order to cope with specific project requirements and in accordance with the prevailing official regulations of the country concerned,
  • issue a copy of the Safety and Environmental Policy Statement and Safety and Environmental Procedures to all appropriate staff and require that they be properly maintained and readily accessible,
  • require all staff to be aware of their safety and environmental responsibilities, and to comply with the Safety and Environmental Procedures, especially tailored with project requirements,
  • require each department / section to be responsible for identifying and, in conjunction with the HSE Officer assigned at Site provide relevant training for operatives and staff,
  • require each department / section to give staff the necessary authority and responsibility to implement DYWIDAG's Safety and Environmental Policy throughout its operations.

Fewer accidents on the construction site

Our endeavours to enhance industrial safety and health protection have led to a marked reduction in the frequency of accidents and absences due to accidents over the past few years.

In order to continue with this success we benchmark the general principles of industrial safety as early as the planning stage and/or the point at which the call for tenders is issued. This means that dangerous situations can be avoided and/or appropriate protective measures introduced in good time. This is of particular importance in view of the fact that planning and execution operations are generally divided amongst different contractors.

Consistent environment management from purchasing to waste disposal

In the field of environmental protection we are focussing our attention on correct handling and disposal of waste on our construction sites in line with local legislation on recycling and waste management, and on safe procedures in handling hazardous substances. We oblige our sub-contractors to follow our procedures. In close collaboration with our purchasing department we ensure that environmental compatibility is one of the factors taken into account when deciding which products to select.
