Company History

History of DYWIDAG International GmbH

Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG (DYWIDAG) was established in 1865. Since then it has been active in construction in Germany and began its international activities in 1891.

Given the remarkable increase of international business and due to requirements for an adequate and transparent organisational structure, DYWIDAG International GmbH was established as a separate legal entity and with its own organisation in 2000.

The purpose of this newly created subsidiary was the continuation and expansion of the international construction business. All the personnel, know-how and experience and the financial potential of the former International Division of Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG was transferred to and secured for DYWIDAG International GmbH by a Cooperation Agreement between DYWIDAG International GmbH and Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG. Accordingly, in 2000, the international construction projects which had been awarded to Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG were taken over by DYWIDAG International GmbH and from that time on the latter prequalified for and successfully engaged in international construction activities.

In 2001 Dyckerhoff & Widmann AG merged with one of the major German construction companies, WALTER BAU-AG and both companies continued their business under the name ‘WALTER BAU-AG vereinigt  mit DYWIDAG’. The entire international business of the new company was transferred to and further pursued by DYWIDAG International GmbH which thus continued to trade and indeed increased its activities considerably. Access to the technical and financial resources of its new parent was available and garanteed by a Cooperation Agreement similar to that existing prior to the merger.

In February 2005, the shares of DYWIDAG International GmbH as well as other significant parts of WALTER BAU-AG vereinigt mit DYWIDAG, such as DYWIDAG Bau GmbH and Heilit + Wörner Bau GmbH, were acquired by STRABAG SE, a large and global player in the international construction market.

Accordingly, DYWIDAG International has become the main subsidiary of STRABAG SE charged with expanding the Group's international civil engineering construction activities. DYWIDAG International has access to the extensive financial, technical and organisational resources of STRABAG SE which is one of the largest European construction
companies with a turnover in 2005 amounting to € 9.3 billion.
STRABAG SE is active in all construction sectors and with a more than 100 year tradition, has extensive experience and in-depth technical expertise.

The accounts within the organisation of STRABAG SE are consolidated and the Annual Accounts of STRABAG SE together with the Auditor’s report are published in the Annual Report for the business year.
