Jubail, situated in the east of Saudi Arabia, is one of the country’s two main industry cities. Approximately 100 km2 are covered with industrial plants. The Saudi Iron and Steel Company (Hadeed), a 100% affiliate of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), is one of the companies owning a huge area within Jubail’s Industrial City. On this complex Hadeed intended to expand its production capacity and product portfolio by investing in a new steel rolling mill for bars and wire rods.
In 1993 DYWIDAG Saudi Arabia (DSA), a 100% affiliate of DYWIDAG International, already constructed a steel rolling mill for flexible bars for Hadeed. In October 2004 DSA once again started to build for Hadeed after being awarded the contract for the design and turnkey erection of the new plant. The civil works began right after the signature of the contract and were terminated in March 2006. Danieli, an Italian manufacturer for process technology and automation, supplied the plant’s technical equipment.
The new rolling mill has an annual production capacity of 500,000 tonnes of steel reinforcing bars and wire rods.
